Navigating Change: An Open Letter
I’m sitting here on a rainy Sunday morning, drinking my coffee and reflecting back on life. I’ll be heading to Lexington in an hour or so to walk the University of Kentucky campus with my daughter for her Senior photos. Wow, how did this come so fast?
I’m such a seasons kinda gal, so I always love looking at my life in chunks or phases. I’ve been through a lot of really hard seasons, but it was much harder watching my daughter go through her hard seasons. When she was hurting so was I. As her mom, it’ll always be that way. I’ll carry her excitement, her fear, her sadness, or her joy with me, and will feel it too. The last 10 years, particularly, were a roller coaster ride with her life experiences, but it’s been totally worth the ups and downs now that I see the kind, responsible, and intelligent person she’s grown into.
She’s entering the real world now where she’ll start her career and decide where she’ll make a life for herself. It’s been hard seeing her wrestle with this but I know it’s just a season; just a phase and she’ll always get through it and look back and be grateful for any struggles she faced as she gets to where God’s leading her.
Change is an inevitable part of life. Whether it’s a new job, a move to a new city, or a major life event and navigating change can be challenging.
To my daughter, and all those navigating a change, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the difficulties you are facing. As someone who has experienced their fair share of change, I know firsthand that it’s possible to come out on the other side stronger and more resilient than ever before.
To anyone who is facing a new challenge in life, I want to write this open letter to you. Let’s navigate this journey together and find a way forward that’s filled with hope and possibility!
Dear friend,
As you enter this new season of your life, I want you to first acknowledge change can be both exciting and scary. It’s natural to feel a mix of emotions as you face new challenges and experiences, but I encourage you to embrace this time as an opportunity for growth and learning.
Remember that every season brings its own set of struggles and joy. It’s important to approach each one with an open heart and mind. Don’t be afraid of new things or stepping out of your comfort zone. This is your chance to discover new passions, develop new skills, and broaden your perspective on the world.
There will be moments of uncertainty, and even fear as you navigate this new season, but know you aren’t alone on this journey. Seek out the support of friends and loved ones. You are stronger than you realize and with the right mindset, you can overcome any obstacle that comes your way.
Above all, remember to be kind to yourself as you enter this new chapter. Give yourself permission to make mistakes and take breaks when you need them. Be sure to celebrate the smallest victories along the way. You are capable of achieving great things and I have no doubt you will make the most of this season of your life and look back and be proud of all you overcame to get here.
Always in your corner,
Jess

I couldn’t be prouder of Jessica and Maddy My niece and Great niece. Jessica has always been one of my family to be proud of. She has always been a Religious, trustworthy person from the word go. She carried a lot on her shoulders in her young life. Jessica and her brother Aaron lost both parents at a young time in their life. I lost my best friend Their mother and my sister Fran. They Lost both parents within a year of each other. Jessica has made great strides in her career choices. I am very proud of her, and I know Her parents are beaming with pride at the way she has handled life situations. Maddy is headed in the same
direction. I wish her well in life just as much as Jessica and her mother Fran were friends at this young stage of her life.
Love you both,
Jessica
